Apac Municipal Council has officially handed over the construction works for Chegere Road and a drainage system along Youth Road to SAK Contractors under a project valued at Shs1.9 billion.
The project, funded under the Uganda Support to Municipal Infrastructure Development, Additional Financing (USMID-AF) programme, will involve the tarmacking of approximately 150 metres of Chegere Road and the construction of a 160-metre drainage system along Youth Road within Apac Municipality.
The site was officially handed over during a ceremony attended by key district and municipal leaders, including the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Apac, Andrew Onyuk, Apac Municipal Mayor Patrick Ongom Eyul, Speaker Ronny Abawinyo, Municipal Development Forum General Secretary Geoffrey Okullu, Town Clerk Paul Muboki, and Senior Engineer Eng. Francis Odongo.
During the ceremony, leaders conducted a ground-breaking event to signal the official commencement of the works.
Speaking at the event, RDC Andrew Onyuk warned the contractor against shoddy work, emphasizing that the funds allocated for the project are sufficient to deliver quality infrastructure.
He urged the contractor to ensure the works meet the required standards and are completed within the three-month timeframe agreed upon.
Municipal leaders expressed optimism that the project will improve road connectivity, drainage, and service delivery within Apac Municipality once completed.
The RDC, Town Clerk, Mayor and the Senior Engineer also formally handed over the site and Bills of Quantities (BOQ) to SAK Contractors to begin the construction works immediately.
The infrastructure project is expected to significantly improve transport and drainage systems within the municipality.
